Seventeen volunteers joined our activities today, all planned to avoid disruption to birds seeking nesting sites. Our new tree-poppers were used to remove small, isolated cherry laurel and holly saplings, to prevent further spread. Other volunteers removed brambles overhanging the steps and scraped the thick, compacted layer of decayed leaf mulch off too to maintain safety. Numerous acorns rooting in the steps were moved to a lighter, open area nearby where, hopefully, some will continue to grow. Oh, and there were some minor bridge repairs as well.

Leaf mulch had compacted on the steps - they were slippery and acorns were growing in the joins. We scraped the mulch off and brushed them down.

A muddy area was dug out, some more gravel was added then bashed down to consolidate it.

This path went between two large holly bushes and it was so wet and muddy that walkers have created a diversion path to avoid it. We cut the tops off the holly to let in more light to dry the path then cut the holly back.

The holly waste was used to make a dead hedge to protect the area behind as saplings are coming up in this lighter, more open space.
