FOW Events

The Friends of Oxleas Woodlands organises guided themed walks throughout the year, has exclusive talks for members and holds special activities days to celebrate the woodlands.

In previous years we have had walks themed around:

  • Houses of the Woods

  • Bats

  • Trees

  • Fungi

  • Birds

  • History of the Woods

  • Conservation of the Woods

Walks are advertised to members first and then made available for Booking via Eventbrite here.

Spring Birds

Saturday 20th April, 9:30am

David will share fascinating insights about the local bird population and their behaviour. Spring is the best time of year to hear birds in Oxleas. Residents like Dunnock and Robin will be joined by summer visitors such as Whitethroat and Swallow. All busy getting partners, defending territories and feeding their offspring.

Spring Family Explorer

Sunday 21st April, 10:15am

Families with primary-aged children are invited to join Sue to explore the woods around Severndroog Castle. The woodlands might be muddy, but they are still fun to explore.

Through lots of sensory games and activities the colours, smells and sounds will be brought to life helping us to discover the amazing variety of plants and animals at this time of year.

Spring Flowers

Sunday 28th April, 2pm

Join Laurie and other enthusiasts for a guided walk through Oxleas Woods. The spring flowers should be at their pea. Expect to see the cuckoo flower, the bluebell and many others. Observe how the conservation work done by volunteers is proving opportunity for more species to grow.

A Guided Walk to Discover Oxleas Woodlands

Sunday 5th May, 10am

Our eagle-eyed walk leader, Richard, has a fantastic knowledge and you'll be surprised at what can be learnt about the trees, shrubs and plants. Richard will identify and describe plants and their uses - and some of the lore and legends that accompanies them.

Paths, Verges and Scallops

Have you wondered about the pathways in Oxleas Woodlands? Discover the importance of scallops! This walk will explore what has been achieved in the early stages of the work, managed by FOW and our volunteer groups, demonstrating where significant improvements have been made and what we have planned next.
