FOW Events

The Friends of Oxleas Woodlands organises guided themed walks throughout the year, has exclusive talks for members and holds special activities days to celebrate the woodlands.

Severndroog Castle is an elegantly preserved gothic tower located within Oxleas Woodlands. It has a tearoom and regular events. Find about What's On at Severndroog on their website severndroogcastle.org.uk/whats-on/

Members' Meetings

Members' Meetings are held at Shrewsbury House Community Centre, Bushmoor Crescent, London SE18 3EG, 7:30pm - 8:30pm

They are followed by an exclusive talk by a guest speaker.

2026 Volunteer-led Guided Walks

We will announce walks as they are confirmed.

In previous years we have had walks themed around:

  • Houses of the Woods

  • Bats

  • Trees

  • Fungi

  • Birds

  • History of the Woods

  • Conservation of the Woods

All our walks are free to attend, but we welcome donations to help with the administration costs of running FOW. Walks are advertised to members in the newsletter before being advertised on social media. Find them first on Eventbrite here.

EXPLORE THE GREAT HOUSES IN OXLEAS WOODLANDS

Saturday 4th April 2026, 2pm - 4:30pm

Tom will lead us on an exploration of the locations of six of the great houses which once stood in the woodlands.

Using images and anecdotes, Tom will tell the story of the houses and introduce you to some of the fascinating people who onced lived in them.

The walk will involve a bit of standing around. It is suitable for adults.

SPRING BIRD WALK

Saturday 18th April 2026, 9:30am - 11:30am

Don't miss out on this delightful guided bird walk in the heart of London!

David will lead us, sharing fascinating insights about the local bird populations and their behaviours. Spring is the best time of year to watch and hear birds in Oxleas Woodlands.

Don't forget to bring binoculars and cameras to fully appreciate these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

SPRING FLOWER WALK

Sunday 3rd May 2026, 2pm - 3:30pm

Let's stroll through the blooming flowers in Oxleas Woods together on 3rd May.

Laurie will guide us around the woods where we should find a diverse range of spring flowers at their peak. Including the cuckoo flower and bluebell.

Observe how the conservation work done by volunteers is providing opportunity for more species to grow.
