Severndroog Castle & Eltham Common Wood

Saturday’s litter pick took place in, arguably, one of the most beautiful areas of woodland this team works in - and what a lovely morning it was for it too!  The sun shone brightly, a very light breeze rustled the dry autumn leaves remaining on the trees, and not a drop of rain fell until after we had finished our session.  How lucky were we? What a contrast from the previous weekend’s gale force gusts!

As we cleared the litter that was spoiling the beauty of the woodlands, we were also treated to the singing of robins, the crunch of leaves and some beautiful displays of autumnal fungi. It was a real pleasure to be both sauntering in the woodlands and making a difference at the same time.

Thanks to our 13 litter-picking volunteers who cleared approximately another 25 rubbish sacks of litter (RBG were again picking them up as we worked), a television, a foldable chair, a car tyre and the usual stash of gas canisters, in total contributing another 26 hours to protecting the ecology.

Only about a quarter of the rubbish collected!

On the bright side, we were joined by a new volunteer, a family, alongside our dedicated regulars but, we are always looking for new volunteers!
