Jackwood House Garden
Sunday, 16th November 2025
Our second session this month was a typical, dull, damp November day but our seven, determined gardening volunteers were not deterred and got to work with gusto.
Jackwood House Garden - The Fountain - swamped with vegetation.

As usual, we divided into two separate groups: four people got back to work on the terrace area, continuing the super work they had started last session - trimming back the wisteria on the right-hand side. And… what a difference they made – revealing the beautiful stone fountain again after such a long time!
As always, there is still much more we would like to do so we hope to be back there again relatively soon to clear the brambles and weeds within both the fenced area, and the adjacent beds which are a mass of deeply-rooted brambles.
Meanwhile, the other three volunteers worked within the dark, cherry-laurel area, where they practised their coppicing skills and cut back some of the cherry laurel. This has created a space for a composting area where we will place our green waste while it rots down. As it does so it will release nutrients into this depleted soil, and provide us with new, rich mulch to use on the flower-beds. A win-win for the gardens!
