Friday, 14th November - Cancelled

Jack Wood - Wildflower Area - Lower Path

Having carried out our first autumn session in this beautiful woodland area on the edge of Oxleas Meadow, we were looking forward to a second session to finish clearing the holly stand, before moving on.

But…the weather had different ideas!  If there is one thing you can say about our weather, it is changeable from day to day, and as the week went by, it looked more and more likely that we were going to be affected by a yellow weather warning.

By Thursday evening, it was looking unlikely we could go ahead as heavy rain was forecast throughout the day.  So… out went an email to those who planned to attend explaining cancellation was likely and that a final decision would be made by the leaders early on Friday morning.

We were not giving up hope, however, and waited eagerly for the rain to pass so we could go ahead.  By morning, while things had improved, there had been heavy rain in the night, making ground conditions slippery and unsafe, and heavy showers were forecast throughout the day.  So, volunteer health and safety first - the session had to be cancelled after all and out went email 2!

We will be back to finish the area in another couple of weeks. Weather permitting, of course!
