Gardening group - a sit down in the sun (with weeds)

On Sunday, a half dozen volunteers sat down on the grass in Jackwood and got to work on a bit of detail weeding.

Volunteer inspecting flower beds

We'd already done a first pass on weeding across most of the beds this spring, but there were two left. And those had a lot of the same thing in them - the cow parsley. We'd left the seeds on that for the birds to eat but sadly for us they'd not cleared their plates! That had left us with a beautiful green fuzz across those two beds, but also with a need to weed them urgently before the cow parsley shot up to hip height overnight.

More luckily for us, the birds had also not eaten all of the hellebore seeds - one of our volunteers kindly took home a handful of seedlings to pot up and bring back later. Fingers crossed that most of them take! And that some of them take after their prettier parent!

It was a beautiful spring day - and we all ended up sitting on the grass and chatting while we worked. A good few passers by stopped to chat, and everyone had a lovely, relaxing morning - not quite our usual, but a nice change!

Rather more leisurely work than normal!
