Today, 20th March 2025, is World Frog Day

And look what we found in our large pond today - a reason to celebrate.

Following the restoration work on the large pond in Oxleas Wood, we have been keeping an eye out for signs of frogs breeding. Today we saw, and managed to capture on film, just what we were hoping for - both frogs breeding and some clumps of spawn. These were not the only pair either. So brilliant news!

Advice from Froglife is: NEVER move spawn from one pond to another as this can spread amphibian diseases such as Red Leg or the Chytrid Fungus.
