Conservation work and Litter Clearance
There are three conservation work parties each month. The Shooters Hill Woodlands Work Party - which has been working closely with Greenwich Council since 1994 - meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
The Friends of Oxleas Woodlands Woodland Conservation Work Party meets on two Fridays per month. Check our calendar for dates, or email us for details.
Work parties meet at 10am and generally continue working in the woods until about 1-2pm.
The work parties consist of volunteers of all ages and undertake a range of tasks, including - clearance of rhododendron and sycamore, dead-hedging construction, ditch clearing, pond renovation, holly reduction, path maintenance etc. No special
skills or knowledge is required, and we provide tools. You must provide your own gloves and we recommend clothing and boots suitable for working in woodland (think mud and brambles!) Everyone
over the age of 16 is welcome -
but expect to get grubby !!!!
Every month we organise several litter clearance sessions in the woods. These take place of a Saturday and Wednesday morning (see calendar for dates) We provide bags, gloves and litter picking tools.
It may sound strange, but clearing litter from the woods is surprisingly satisfying, and we have removed literally tons of it!
